MAP Group, one of the most renowned engineering and construction groups in Portugal, is undergoing a significant transformation, with new business areas. Founded by Diogo Abecasis and José Rui Meneses e Castro, the group recently announced a strategic restructuring that reflects its growth and ambition to operate in new market segments, while maintaining construction as its main business focus. In an interview with Magazine Imobiliário, the co-CEOs and founders of MAP Group shared the vision and strategy that guided this evolution process, highlighting how the group is repositioning itself to respond more effectively to market needs and customer expectations, while maintaining its commitment to quality and sustainability.
During the interview, the founders explained the major change in the group’s portfolio of companies, which now includes six new business: MAP Engenharia e Construção, MAP Spaces, Villas, MAP Property Services, MAP Real Estate and MAP Capital. This segmentation into new business areas reflects a deliberate strategy of specialization, allowing each unit to operate with a unique identity and focus on its respective sector.
According to José Rui Meneses e Castro, construction is and will remain the group’s “core business”, and it is precisely this technical expertise and experience that serves as the foundation for the new areas of operation. MAP has been approached by various investors seeking our expertise in construction to develop their projects in a more controlled and cost-effective manner,” he explains. Thus, MAP Real Estate emerges as a co-investment vehicle that allows the group to apply its construction knowledge in real estate development projects, sharing the risk while also creating value for its partners.

This service is a natural extension of what we were already doing in after-sales,” comments Meneses e Castro, adding that MAP Property Services will enable the group to manage assets from their design to ongoing management, ensuring quality and durability.
Sustainability and innovation are core values of MAP Group, and MAP Capital emerges as a unit dedicated to expanding the group’s reach beyond traditional construction. This division invests in complementary sectors, such as innovation and technology, promoting solutions that optimise construction processes and enhance the sustainability of projects. “We want to contribute to a more responsible and efficient construction sector,” says Diogo Abecasis, who also highlights the group’s ability to act as a catalyst for innovation, investing in partner companies that complement and strengthen the construction value chain.
To meet the specific demands of the luxury market and the need for space customization, MAP Group launched two new companies: MAP Spaces and Villas. MAP Spaces is focused on the renovation and creation of high-end interior spaces, including offices, hotels, and commercial spaces. As Abecasis highlights, this unit allows the group to expand its offering in the fit-out market, catering to clients’ preferences with a more specialised response.

With these new business areas, MAP Group is poised to continue its growth and innovation trajectory, positioning itself as a complete ecosystem in the construction and real estate sectors. “We believe this is the ideal moment to take this step,” says Abecasis. The expectation is that the group will continue to expand its presence in the domestic market and eventually internationally, with a renewed commitment to the values of quality, responsibility, and excellence.
